The Duende Native Plug-in suite is a collection of audio processing tools which bring professional audio quality, sophistication and benchmark performance within reach of all DAW users. SSL Console Grade Processing For Your DAW SSL will develop no new plug-ins for DSP Duende. At the same time as releasing Duende Native, SSL is withdrawing from sale all optional plug-ins and channel Upgrades for DSP Duende hardware. There is never an easy time to make a radical change… and Duende Native IS a radical change. What does that mean for me and my Duende? All future development for Duende will be Native. We believe that the future of project studio DAW processing is native so Duende Native marks a strategic change of development strategy to reflect this view. SSL does still use DSP extensively within our large scale Digital Consoles, particularly for broadcast where 512 audio channels are not uncommon… but most project studio DAW users do not need this much power. Processor manufacturers continue to develop ever bigger, faster multi-core devices which deliver more than enough power for most users already and look set to continue to stay ahead of demand. In the last two years the balance has shifted as users expect even bigger, more powerful systems it is the limitations of the Firewire bus and other internal computer bus architecture which imposes limits to the complexity and number of plug-in instances available. At the time, the additional DSP in Duende hardware provided a solution. SSL plug-ins are sophisticated and power hungry and at the time when Duende DSP launched, computer processors did not have the power required to run them. It is in the nature of technology development that users expect a never ending upward spiral of more power and ever more sophisticated products. It is our view that for the vast majority of DAW users, the additional power provided by the DSP in our Duende hardware units is no longer necessary. It has been four years since we first launched Duende and in that time ‘multi-core’ host processing has massively increased the power of personal computers. Duende Native marks a significant change in the evolution of the Duende product line. They do not require a Duende hardware unit. Duende Native plug-ins are functionally and sonically identical to the highly respected legacy DSP powered Duende plug-ins but they run natively on your host computer.

Looking forward to your update and thanks again. In February 2011 SSL launched ‘Duende Native’. Please can I respectfully ask you to share this thought with SSL's marketing department.

More importantly for SSL, I work in marketing and IMHO, offering this 64 bit driver commitment as part of the Duende PCIe sales information can only help to sell more Duende PCIes, rather than having people chose products from more customer focused competitors. I really don't want to have to return my Duende PCIe but do not have indefinite patience. Sorry to insist but given the level of demand, your new Duende PCIe bundle planned for NAMM, and UAD already being 64 bit compatible, can SSL commit to a timeframe - for example, by March 2009 or June 2009 etc.

Judging by the number of views of this thread (over 70 in less than 12 hours!) it seems that lots of people are waiting for the 64 bit driver, and I currently have a Duende PCIe card that I cannot use with my Windows Vista 64 bit system. Many thanks for your quick response and for easing my concerns. If you have any issues with returning it to DV because of this let me know and I'll see if any wheels can be oiledthumbsup It said "Mac" on the tin, and I thought that my relatively new Intel machine would easily handle it. I have some sympathy for this having asked for Guitar Hero for xmas only to find that my MacBook was not supported because of the 64mb on-bard Intel graphics - again lots of info out there had I thought to check for it.

It is also becoming a standard in broadcast circles.Ħ4-bit drivers for all of our computer products is most certainly on our radar this year, and while I can't promise an immediate release we do expect to implement them.īTW barderc I did hear of your call into the office and that you were unhappy that you did not know before buying the Duende that 64-bit drivers were not available (as published in our FAQs). There are a large number of users who see the benefits of a 64-bit system, especially the RAM benefits for large sample playback duties. I'm surprised to hear that someone from inside SSL told you that we were not getting requests and that it was a low priority.
